Hate Spending Money On Yourself? A Couple Very Good Reasons For A Visit To A Spa

When money is tight, and any extra you do have is spent on the kids, the idea of spending a few hours at a spa is pushed away quickly. You just cannot justify spending the money on yourself. However, there are actually a few very good reasons for having a massage.

Reduce Migraines and Tension Headaches

If you suffer from chronic headaches, you know how debilitating they can be, and so does your family. Think of how many things you miss out on because your head is pounding and you need to rest. A massage reduces the intensity and number of headaches for a couple of reasons.

  1. Gentle manipulation of the neck, head and face relieves stress and anxiety. This will cause the muscles to relax and reduce pain. When done regularly, the effects will keep the muscles from becoming tense and causing a headache.
  2. A massage increases blood flow, which increases oxygen to the muscles. Adequate oxygen and nutrients in the blood decreases the number of muscle spasms that are often the cause of a headache.

Reduce PMS Symptoms

Hormonal mood swings are not fun for you, your children or your partner. Add back pain, bloating and fluid retention to the mix and you have a few days where you do not want to be around anyone. Having a massage before or just as the symptoms start will alleviate the severity of them. In many cases, you may not experience them at all. It increases blood and lymph circulation that will help balance hormones and stop fluids from accumulating. This stops swelling and bloating. In addition, the stroking and kneading releases endorphins that help reduce back and hip pain.

While you may feel guilty if you do something for yourself, if you don't every once in a while the tension, stress and anxiety will only build. Going to a spa and having a massage is a great way to rejuvenate and revitalize. It will also keep you feeling better so you are ready to spend quality time with your children and partner. Think of how happy your kids will be when you decide to go to the park with them and join in on the activities instead of staying home with a headache or feeling rotten with PMS symptoms. Sure, you may not be able to get them the new video game they wanted this week, but the trade-off is more than worth it.
